Lake County sheriff plans Super Bowl weekend traffic crackdown

Lake County Sheriff's police are enacting a traffic safety crackdown for Super Bowl weekend. The campaign will focus on alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers, and those not wearing their seat belts.

"Impaired driving crashes are completely preventable," Sheriff Mark Curran said in an announcement of the crackdown. "We want everyone to remember it's a choice, and the choice is simple: Don't drink and drive. If you do, you put your life and other lives at risk."

Funding for the enforcement effort will come from federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
