History fair takes Vernon Hills students back in time

Students at Vernon Hills High School stepped back in time Thursday during the school's fourth annual History Fair, during which students in United States History showed off research projects ranging from written reports to video documentaries and websites.

"The fair models the Chicago Metro History Fair and National History Day," said U.S. History teacher Matt Bellito. "This year our student research projects must examine a U.S. history topic that relates to 'Taking a Stand' in Chicago or Illinois."

Classmates and visitors viewed the students' projects Thursday in the school's library.

More than 200 students are participating in the fair, with the top entrants advancing to the regional and, possibly, state competition.
