No surprises for Texas A&M with committed signing class

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Texas A&M had a big early start for coach Kevin Sumlin's latest recruiting class, with nine players already enrolled early in school and on campus.

The Aggies added 18 more players Wednesday, completing a signing class that sixth-year coach Sumlin called the most complete all-around group he has had in College Station.

While composite rankings of recruiting services compiled by 247Sports ranked the Aggies the sixth-best class in the SEC, they were 12th nationally.

With Trevor Knight gone after his one season as a graduate transfer for the Aggies, the early enrollees include quarterbacks Kellen Mond, who played in San Antonio before going to IMG Academy, and Connor Blumrick from Pearland.

Other things to know:

Top 25 Class: Yes.

Best in class: Anthony Hines, LB, Plano, Texas. The Parade and Under Armour All-American had 220 tackles, including 133 solo stops, last season. He also had five sacks and 38 tackles for loss - all in 11 games. He had about 90 scholarship offers.

Best of the rest: Mond, the dual-threat QB who accounted for 36 touchdowns in 10 games at IMG Academy in Florida last season.

Late addition: Joshua Rogers, OT/DT, Houston. Rogers had 11 offers, and visited Ole Miss last weekend a week after his official visit to Texas A&M the previous weekend. Rogers was the only of the 27 players in this class that hadn't been committed to the Aggies for an extended period.

One that got away: Really, none. "To have 26 guys who were really committed last year, and to hold them through that amount of time, says something about the relationships that were built a long time ago," Sumlin said.

How they'll fit in: Hines could make an immediate impact at inside linebacker after the departure of leading tackler Shaan Washington. Mond and Blumrick could compete in the spring with senior Jake Hubenak and redshirt freshman Nick Starkel for the quarterback job. Knight was the primary starter last year in his only season after being a graduate transfer from Oklahoma.
