A 23-year-old man has been charged with stealing items from unlocked cars over the past three months, Elmhurst police said Tuesday.

Elmhurst officers were called on Jan. 12 by a resident who saw a man inside their garage on the 800 block of South Linden Avenue, police said. The man fled.

Police said they received additional reports of burglaries to unlocked vehicles in the same area.

On Jan. 13, Elmhurst detectives were alerted to the arrest of an offender entering unlocked vehicles in the unincorporated Yorkfield area by DuPage County Sherriff's deputies.

After a joint investigation, Anthony was charged with entering unlocked cars in the southern part of the city during November, December and January.
