Smith, Herenton pace Stevenson's bounce-back victory

Justin Smith scored 20 points, Willie Herenton added 19, and Stevenson's boys basketball team rebounded from its first North Suburban Conference loss to beat visiting Mundelein 82-46 Friday night.

Stevenson (15-3, 7-1) also got a strong game from guard Danny Rosen, who made his first start of the season. Rosen finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Samvit Ram also scored 7 points for the Patriots, who lost to Warren on Wednesday.

Mundelein fell to 4-19 and 0-8.

North Chicago 77, Grayslake North 70: Jamal Thomas hit the 30-point mark for the third game in a row, but the visiting Knights saw their comeback fall just short, as the Warhawks improved to 9-0 in the Northern Lake County.

Grayslake North (13-6, 5-3) trailed 29-14 after one quarter but got within 41-36 by halftime and trailed only 55-53 after three.

Thomas finished with an even 30 points. James Connolly had 22 for the Knights, and Ryan Connolly scored 12.

Grayslake Central 62, Round Lake 33: The visiting Rams snapped a six-game losing streak, outscoring the Panthers 25-3 in the second quarter en route to the Northern Lake County win.

Alec Novak led Grayslake Central (7-13, 3-6) with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Billy Drevline and Clay Stoffel had 9 points apiece for the Rams, and each player hit a 3.

Zach Kuligoski's 9 points led Round Lake (2-17, 0-9), which also received 8 points apiece from Jameson Hamlin (two 3-pointers) and Ryan Lowe.

Maine West 62, Vernon Hills 55: The host Cougars came up short in the Central Suburban North game, despite Chris Mariella's season-high 27 points.

Mariella sank 11 of 19 shots, including 1 of 3 from three-point range, and went 4 of 4 from the foul line.

Vernon Hills fell to 4-20 and 1-6.
