College of DuPage Hosts Screening of 'Psychedelic Mysticism' on Feb. 27

College of DuPage Human Services faculty member Bruce Sewick, LCPC, CADC, will premier the recently released movie "Psychedelic Mysticism" on Monday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Health and Science Center (HSC), Room 1234, at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn. The screening will be followed by a presentation on the use of MDMA as a therapeutic adjunct to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

"With the recent approval by the FDA of Phase 3 research on MDMA to treat PTSD, there is a careful reconsideration of the use of psychedelics to provide relief for treatment resistant conditions," Sewick said. "During this discussion, I will also discuss information learned from early research such as The Good Friday Experiment and how current research provides a scientific basis for rescheduling of some psychedelics for supervised therapeutic use in a clinical setting."

Sewick noted that he is working to share research-based knowledge to others through the Psychedelic Mindview course at College of DuPage, which he has taught since 2012. Offered this spring from March 15 to May 12, this online course investigates the role of psychedelic substances throughout history and covers clinical research on psychedelic drugs as adjuncts to psychotherapy for the treatment of addiction, PTSD and existential distress at the end of life.
