Lake Park to perform Woody Allen comedy

Lake Park High School soon will perform the Woody Allen comedy "Don't Drink the Water," a tale of mistaken identity and eccentric characters.

In the play, the Hollander family, from New Jersey, is on vacation in Europe when they are mistaken for spies in a communist country. They take refuge in the American Embassy, which is being run in the ambassador's absence by her diplomatically incompetent son, Axel.

In true Woody Allen fashion, the Hollanders are joined by a steady parade of quirky characters, including a nun whose hobby is magic tricks, a temperamental chef, and member of the secret police with a definite flare for the dramatic.

The play fits the drama department's theme for the season, "Find Your Truth," because the main characters in the show, through their experiences dealing with the situation they find themselves in, grow and find their own truths.

Leading characters include Walter Hollander, performed by senior Giuliano Catalano; Marion Hollander, played by sophomore Clarissa Consoli; Susan Hollander, performed by senior Kelsey Woodbury; Axel Magee, portrayed by junior Ben Herring; Sister Drobney, played by senior Morgan Rahe; and Mr. Kilroy, portrayed by senior Kenny Herron-Cologna.

The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 2 to 4, at the school's East Campus, 600 S. Medinah Road, Roselle. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for non-Lake Park students, and free for children younger than 13, Lake Park students with ID and senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
