District 102 in Buffalo Grove OKs $19-25M expansion

Aptakisic-Tripp Elementary District 102 will spend $19 million to $25 million on expanding and upgrading schools in Buffalo Grove.

The school board approved a plan Monday intended to increase classroom space to accommodate 280 students per grade, compared to the current 250 students at each level.

Under the plan, the district will reorganize the grade levels at each of the district's five schools and add significant space to Aptakisic Junior High. The plan also includes renovations at other schools.

The school district will pay for the expansion with alternate revenue bonds and budget reserves. Alternate revenue bonds do not require an additional tax or voter referendum because the district pays off the debt with money from existing revenues.

The district will now study renovation plans to determine an exact cost.
