Glendale Heights collecting Valentine cards for vets

Glendale Heights is partnering with organizations throughout the community to collect decorated Valentine's Day cards to celebrate National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Month.

Annually, the village collects and delivers thousands of written and decorated Valentine's Day cards to Illinois veterans homes and veteran hospitals.

Glendale Heights has collected more than 5,000 cards in past years with support from Glenbard High School District 87, Queen Bee Elementary District 16, Marquardt Elementary District 15, St. Matthew Parish School, Glenside Public Library District, Sports Hub Preschool, PATH Afterschool Program, Scout troops and other groups.

Individuals, organizations, community groups and businesses are encouraged to participate. Cards should not have glitter or envelopes or include personal or contact information.

Valentines can be dropped off in collection bins at all village facilities or sent to the Glendale Heights Village Hall, c/o Nicole Lewis, 300 Civic Center Plaza, Glendale Heights, IL 60139.

Valentine's Day cards must be turned in no later than Wednesday, Feb. 1, to ensure timely delivery for Valentine's Day. For questions, call Lewis at (630) 909-5327.
