Man who choked Aurora woman sent to prison

A Riverdale man has been sentenced to prison for choking his girlfriend in her Aurora apartment in 2015.

On Friday, a Kane County judge sentenced Carl C. Walker Sr., 52, to 16 years in prison - an enhanced sentence based on his extensive criminal history, the Kane County state's attorney's office said in a statement.

Walker was convicted in December of aggravated domestic battery. Prosecutors said during that trial that Walker was at his girlfriend's apartment on Aug. 13, 2015, when they began to argue. When she walked away, he grabbed her neck from behind and choked her for 10 to 15 seconds, prosecutors said. The following day, a friend of the victim noticed the bruises and called police.

Walker's criminal history includes multiple forceable felonies in Cook County since 1985. He must serve 85 percent of his prison term. He receives credit for 29 days in Kane County jail.
