St. Alphonsus in Prospect Heights raises money for veteran's new home

St. Alphonsus Liguori School in Prospect Heights is hosting a sixth-grade boys basketball tournament Jan. 27-29 to raise money to build a house for a Naperville veteran.

A Soldier's Journey Home, an Arlington Heights-based nonprofit, is constructing a home this May for Army Spc. Tony Chobanov in Spring Grove. Chobanov, first profiled in the Daily Herald in November, served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and a traumatic brain injury. Through February, the organization is raising funds at asoldiersjourneyhome.org to help defray construction costs, and St. Alphonsus is one of several groups to donate to the effort.

To help, contact basketball coach Tony Marchetti at (847) 894-5458 or marchetti33@outlook.com.
