Keefe reaches 1,000 points as Libertyville rolls to victory

Claire Keefe scored the 1,000th point of her career, and Libertyville's girls basketball team defeated host Deerfield 51-29 in nonconference action Saturday.

Libertyville (13-9) won for the eighth time in its last 10 games.

Keefe, a four-year varsity player, scored her milestone point on a sweeping layup in the second quarter. She finished with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks.

"Claire exemplifies hard work and dedication to improving herself as a basketball player," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. "She does whatever it takes for her team to be successful. Her teammates and coaches are thrilled for her."

Riley Weis led Libertyville in scoring with 14 points. Caroline Frea had 6 points and 14 rebounds.

"I like the aggressive nature we've had on defense lately," Pedersen said. "We play 'D' with a lot of energy, and it's been creating opportunity for us on offense."

Antioch 62, Grant 46: Ashley Reiser scored a game-high 18 points and also led her team in rebounds (7), assists (8) and steals (6), as the host Sequoits ran their winning streak to 12 games.

Erika Gallimore added 14 points, 3 assists and 5 steals, while Amy Reiser scored 9 points for Antioch (21-3, 8-1), which led the Northern Lake County game 17-9 after one quarter. Piper Foote played solid defense, nabbing 3 steals and forcing several turnovers.

The victory also marked the 100th in the four-year varsity careers of the Reiser twins.

Ally Mahinay scored 13 points for Grant (8-14, 4-5), and Ameerah Muhammad had 9.

Grayslake Central 52, Round Lake 25: Lindsay Brust led all scorers with 13 points, and the visiting Rams improved to 15-6 and 9-0 in the Northern Lake County.

Rosie Drevline and Amanda Larson added 8 and 7 points, respectively, for Grayslake Central.

Emely Martinez had 6 points for Round Lake (5-15, 2-7).

Stevenson 50, Fenwick 34: Ashley Richardson scored a game-high 20 points, and the host Patriots snapped a two-game losing streak with the nonconference win.

Stevenson (16-5) also received 10 points from Klaire Steffens, 9 from Madison Wicklund and 8 from Kiana Cencula. Richardson and Cencula each hit two 3-pointers.

Warren 43, Lake Zurich 31: Kaylen Dickson's 16 points led the visiting Blue Devils to their 12th win in a row in North Suburban action.

Jordyn Hughes added 13 points, and Rebekah Foley had 7 to help Warren (19-3, 7-2) to a 22-16 first-half lead.

"Good, hard-fought game," Blue Devils coach John Stanczykiewicz said. "Chris' team (Lake Zurich coach Chris Bennett) is still a little young but tough as nails."

Lake Zurich fell to 9-12 and 5-4.
