Pioneer Center names new board chair and vice chair

The Pioneer Center for Human Services announces that Dan McCaleb has been named chairman of the board of directors. McCaleb replaces Michael Moushey who retired from the board in December 2016.

McCaleb, executive editor for Shaw Media, first joined the Pioneer Center board in 2010 when the agency merged with the Youth Service Bureau. Since then he has worked diligently alongside other board members to provide diverse services to an ever-changing community.

"I am proud of the work this board and Pioneer Center staff have done over the past year-plus to successfully transition programming, reduce expenses, improve financial efficiency and continue to serve our clients' many and diverse needs in exceptional fashion," McCaleb said. "Given the ongoing uncertainty of the state budget situation, we must continue to look at creating efficiencies and diversifying our revenue while never losing focus on our clients and programs."

In addition, Pioneer Center welcomed back former board member Rebecca Heisler who will fill the role of vice chairwoman as McCaleb moves up from that position.

Heisler brings with her a strong knowledge of McHenry County and a background in fundraising which will be especially vital as the agency works to implement a strategic fund development plan to continue to diversify its revenue streams.

"I have a strong passion for Pioneer Center, having a family member as a client, and realize the critical role Pioneer Center plays in McHenry County helping people in need of these vital services," Heisler said.

Moving forward, both individuals will be placing focus on expanding the board's membership to bring key leaders from the community and their expertise to Pioneer Center.

"The Pioneer Center team and I welcome Dan and Rebecca's expertise and commitment to serve our important mission," said Sam Tenuto, co-CEO of Pioneer Center. "A strong board is critical to our agency's success and we appreciate those that volunteer and ensure that we best serve our community."
