Feb. 25: CLC offers free STEM Day for girls in grades 7-12

Girls in seventh through 12th grade who want to explore careers in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and math) are invited to the College of Lake County's seventh annual STEM for Girls event Saturday, Feb. 25.

This free, hands-on career exploration day, packed with workshops by expert presenters, will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lower Level A Wing at 19351 W. Washington Street, Grayslake.

STEM for Girls is designed for school groups, scout groups, youth groups and individual girls. The program seeks to motivate middle school and high school girls interested in STEM careers to become innovative and creative thinkers and to pursue careers in this area. Presenters include CLC faculty members from a variety of academic areas plus other professional experts and teachers.

Girls can select from a variety of presentation topics, including chemistry, biology, lasers, medical imaging, engineering, nursing, math, computer aided design and more. Each session will provide hands-on, practical experiences. In addition, a STEM for parents session will be held at the same time, featuring topics of interest to parents with daughters interested in STEM fields.

Registration will be held from 8:45-9:15 a.m. in the Lower Level A Wing. Please enter at the A Wing entrance and park in lots 4, 5 or 7 near the Brae Loch Road entrance.

Preregistration is required and opens Feb. 1. To register or to see a schedule that includes topics and presenters, visit www.clcillinois.edu/events/stem-for-girls. For more information, contact the Biological and Health Sciences division at (847) 543-2394 or email isaini@clcillinois.edu.
