CLC sponsors Black History Month events

To celebrate Black History Month, the College of Lake County invites the community to participate in a series of events at the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St., and in downtown Waukegan. Events are at Grayslake unless otherwise noted.

Jan. 25: "I Have a Dream: A King's Journey," noon discussion and a 6 p.m. free concert. Marcus Gentry, a trainer, pop singer and actor, will lead a discussion on the relevancy of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life from noon-2 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room on Student Street. Gentry's concert is from 6-8 p.m. in the A Wing Auditorium (Room A011).

Feb. 11: 33rd Annual Salute to Gospel Music, 7 p.m., Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan. Headlining the event is Ricky Dillard, a musician, producer and songwriter who founded and has lead The New Generation Chorale of Chicago, now called New G, since 1988. Dillard, who received Grammy Award nominations for three albums, is a multiple Dove Award nominee. Guest choirs include Glenn Johnson and Voices of Innerpeace, the First Baptist Church of Lake Forest Choir and the CLC Gospel Choir. Feb. 18: Movie, "Eyes from Eden," 7 p.m., A Wing Auditorium (Room A011). In director Cornell Ford's most recent film, a church drummer sacrifices the integrity of his faith to satisfy unfulfilled desires. The film, rated PG-13, includes stars Dwane Wilson and Tiana Bennett. Admission is $10.

Feb. 27: Poetry and Jazz in Motion, 5 p.m. dinner in Rooms A013 and Café Willow; 6:30 p.m. performances in the A Wing Auditorium (Room A011). Phenom, a Chicago-based poet and rapper, will host this evening of food, spoken word, jazz and modern rhythm and blues. Other artists include poets Deana Dean, K-Love the Poet, Awthentik, Odyssey and Moe Mentum and saxophonist Tim Cunningham.
