Man hospitalized after Elgin house fire

A man was hospitalized and a family was without shelter Friday following an early evening fire in Elgin.

Firefighters responded to a basement fire at 261 Morgan St. after getting the call at 5:10 p.m. Crews had the fire out within about 30 minutes, according to a news release from the Elgin Fire Department.

One occupant of the home was taken to Provena St. Hospital in Elgin. The damage was estimated at $60,000.

The fire's cause is under investigation.
