Jan. 31 is last day to register for primary election

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham reminds residents in Aurora Township Precincts 1-15 and Dundee Township Precincts 1-35 that the last day to register to vote for the Feb. 28 Consolidated Primary will be Jan. 31.

Most libraries, municipal and township offices in Kane County do accept registrations until Jan. 31 for Aurora and Dundee Township residents only.

Kane County residents may check their registration online by going to www.kanecountyelections.org, click on "Are you registered?" and follow the directions on the page.

To register, a person must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age on or before Feb. 28, 2017, be a resident of the precinct for 30 days prior to the election, and provide two forms of identification one of which shows their current name and address.

Early voting for the Consolidated Primary will begin at the Kane County Clerk's Office on Thursday, Jan. 19.

The grace period registration is an extension of the period of time for a voter to register to vote or to update their registration information. If you register to vote during the grace period and want to vote in the upcoming election, you must vote at the time of registration. Beginning Feb. 1 through Feb. 28, grace period registration and voting will be available in the Kane County Clerk's Office. Two forms of identification are required.

Early voting will begin on Monday, Feb. 13, through Monday, Feb. 27. Two permanent early voting sites, the Kane County Clerk's Office and the Carpentersville Fire Station 3, will offer extended hours including Saturdays and Sundays.

Grace period registration will be available at all early voting sites. See the Kane County Clerk's website, www.kanecountyelections.org for details.

The Carpentersville Fire Station 3 is at 5000 Sleepy Hollow Road.

The Kane County Clerk's Voter Registration Office is located in Building B at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31), Geneva.

Registration will resume on Thursday, March 2, 2017 for Aurora and Dundee Township residents.
