Antioch gets to 20 wins for fourth straight season

Antioch's girls basketball program has reached the 20-win threshold for a fourth straight season.

The Sequoits got there by topping host Wauconda 53-44 on Thursday in Northern Lake County Conference play.

Ashley Reiser made 6 of 8 shots from 3-point range and finished with a game-high 24 points, to go with 5 assists and 5 steals.

Amy Reiser finished with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals, and Erika Gallimore generated 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

The victory puts Antioch (20-3, 7-1) at 99 wins during the four-year varsity career of the Reiser twins. The Sequoits have won 11 straight.

Wauconda, which got 15 points from Katie Rossetti and 13 from Allie Tylka, fell to 10-10 overall and 2-6 in the league.

Lakes 54, Grayslake North 34: The visiting Eagles avenged an earlier loss at home to the Knights by picking up a Northern Lake County Conference victory.

Natalie Pawlak (14 points) and Mia Edwards (13) led the scoring effort for Lakes (12-11, 4-4). Shannon Hurlbut had 8 points and 3 steals, and Sara Smith had a team-best 6 rebounds.

"Savannah Sikora played smart defense on the ball all night," said Lakes coach Brian Phelan, "and our support defenders were always in the correct position. Our assist-to-made shot ratio was high - we shared the ball well."

Grayslake North (11-9, 5-3) has dropped seven of its last nine games.

Lake Forest 70, Waukegan 36: Halle Douglass' 14 points led three Scouts in double figures in the North Suburban game.

Maeve Summerville and Grace Tirzmalis added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Lake Forest (18-7, 7-2).

Libertyville 43, Zion-Benton 34: Claire Keefe had 11 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals for the Wildcats in the North Suburban game.

Riley Weis added 9 points on three 3-pointers and also had 3 steals. Libertyville (12-9, 5-4) won for the eighth time in its last 10 games.

"After being down early, our players adjusted and found a way to shut down their key players," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. "Again, a great team win for us down the stretch."
