Wheeling moving senior services to Recreation Center

Wheeling officials will move services normally provided at the village's Pavilion Senior Center to the Wheeling Park District Community Recreation Center over the next year.

By the start of 2018, services and programs at the senior center, 199 N. First Street, all will be at the recreation center, 333 W. Dundee Road. The move became necessary because the senior population outgrew the village's senior center, officials said.

"Although Wheeling's seniors have outgrown the Pavilion, we respect the benefits this space has offered its users," Village President Dean Argiris said. "We're committed to working with our partners at the park district and in the community to make sure these opportunities are undiminished, and even expanded."

While the recreation center will serve as the host facility, the village's human services department employees will continue to manage their senior programming and special services.
