Chicago Outdoor Sports Show returns to Rosemont

The Chicago Outdoor Sports Show returns to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 19-22.

The show, produced by Outdoor Sports Group, includes dozens of fishing and hunting seminars, many family-friendly attractions and hundreds of vendors and exhibitors showcasing new and traditional products for the outdoor enthusiast.

The Chicago Outdoor Sports Show's goal is to deliver seminars, attractions and exhibits designed to speak to sportsmen and women of all ages with a focus on activities that the entire family can enjoy.

Attendees will have an opportunity to shop for deals on fishing tackle, boats, archery, outfitters, wildlife art, hunting supplies, charters, rafting, gun safes and knives, taxidermy and other items. Fishing and hunting lodges will offer unique travel opportunities.

The show at 5555 N. River Road runs 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. General admission tickets range in price from $6 to $12, depending on day, online purchase, membership in groups such as senior, military or law enforcement, donation of canned food for the needy, and use of coupons.

Many online tickets include a subscription to Field & Stream or Outdoor Life. Children ages 11 and younger are free. Complete show information is at chicagosportshow.com.

Lake Chicago will be a special feature of the show. It holds 100,000 gallons of water and occupies more than 4,000 square feet of exhibit space. The lake is a way to let people get a hands-on feel of boats, docks, or paddle sports.

Exhibitors include All-American Taxidermy, which will showcase multiple taxidermy mounts for spectators, including a 600-pound, life-size black bear. The exhibit will have an interactive area where kids and adults can learn what goes on underneath and touch the furs, hides, skulls and taxidermy forms and eyes.

The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show will be three times daily, demonstrating the spring board chop, ax throw, speed climb, hot saw, cross cut, chain-saw carve, obstacle pole race and log roll. Two rugged Alaskan woodmen go head-to-head in competition.

Other features include a bow fishing range, expert musky panel, Chauncey's Great Outdoors World, Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary, Northern Illinois Raptor Center and a kids archery range.
