'Wicked' returns to Chicago in December

"Wicked," the blockbuster musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, returns to Chicago in time for the holidays.

Broadway in Chicago announced Tuesday the tour will return to the Oriental Theatre Dec. 6 for a seven-week run.

During its initial Chicago run, which concluded in 2009 after 3½ years and more than 1,500 performances, "Wicked" grossed more than $200 million, breaking box office records.

The musical is based on Gregory Maguire's prequel to L. Frank Baum's classic "The Wizard of Oz." The show chronicles the friendship of Elphaba and Glinda before they became the tale's "wicked" and "good" witches.

Tickets for groups of 15 or more are available by calling Broadway in Chicago group sales at (312) 977-1710. Individual tickets will go on sale at a later date. See broadwayinchicago.com for information.
