Call for artists for interactive garment exhibition

You are faced with endless opportunities to observe, celebrate, and/or condemn the qualities that define beauty: gender, body type, size, age, race, ethnicity, style and so on.

"Eye of the Beholder: An Interactive Garment Exhibition" is an opportunity for artist and audience to re-examine beauty.

Water Street Studios in Batavia invites you to create a garment in response to this challenging concept.

They are looking for a garment or representative garment that can be either worn on an interactive runway, which afterwards will be displayed in the gallery - or be an unwearable garment placed in the gallery; addressing the "beauty" found in your interpretation of "Eye of the Beholder".

Artists are invited to submit as many as three sketches along with the swatches of fabric/materials for each concept. Collaborations are welcome.

The deadline to submit concept, drawings and material samples is Monday, Jan. 30.

Email submissions to eye@waterstreetstudios.org. The entry fee is $20.

Artists selected will be announced by Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The exhibit will be May 12 through June 4, with an opening night from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 12.

Water Street Studios will provide artists with a stipend of no more than $200 to assist with the cost of supplies and materials. Artists are responsible for providing their own model(s) for their pieces. Hair and makeup professionals available upon request. This stipend is dependent upon successful sponsorship.
