Hospital seeks bone marrow match for leukemia patient

Northwest Community Healthcare is hosting a bone marrow registry drive in hopes of finding a match for a man with leukemia.

The Arlington Heights hospital is looking for a match for Andrew Parial, who was diagnosed with acute monocytic leukemia in summer 2016. Parial is Filipino, so his best chance of finding a match is within the Filipino community, though officials say anyone ages 18 to 44 can register to be a donor. Those who participate will have the inside of their cheeks swabbed.

Registry drives are scheduled from 7 to 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Oasis hospital cafeteria, 800 N. Central Road, and the Wellness Center, 900 N. Central Road. Another session is from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Wellness Center. Additional drives are 7 to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the cafeteria.

Parial is the brother-in-law of Dr. Jeanine Maurice, an obstetrician/gynecologist hospitalist.
