Trinity International University Faculty Concerts Jan. 21 and 22

The Trinity International University Department of Music presents two faculty concerts on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Jan. 21 and 22.

Joshua Harrison will perform a double bass recital on Saturday, Jan. 21, at 4:00 pm. After graduating from Trinity with a bachelor's degree in music performance in 2012, Joshua earned his Master of Music in Double Bass Performance from Northwestern University in 2015.

As a performer, he frequently plays with orchestras across the Midwest, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, Elgin Symphony, and the South Bend Symphony. In addition to teaching at Trinity, Joshua has served as a graduate instructor at Northwestern and as a masterclass clinician and coach in a variety of educational settings.

On Sunday, Jan. 22, Trinity faculty member Norm Ruiz and alumnus Jeffrey Warren will present a guitar recital at 3:00 pm. They will perform a variety of solo and duo guitar works, including several from their CD together, "Duos Dialogues."

Ruiz, a master teacher and virtuoso of the classical guitar, has performed in the Chicago area for more than 30 years, soloing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, on WFMT and NPR radio, and with the Chicago Classical Guitar Society.

Warren, winner of the Society of American Musicians guitar competition, gives concerts throughout the Midwest and internationally. He has been teaching and performing classical and jazz guitar for over 20 years.

Warren and Ruiz have played together as Duos Dialogues for more than a decade, giving concerts around the world. Each brings a unique quality to their playing, bringing surprising and delightful insight into the music they perform.

Both concerts will be held in the A. T. Olson Chapel on the Deerfield campus at 2065 Half Day Road. Tickets for each event are $8 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the door or by calling 847-317-8021.
