Winds blows brick from South Bend tower; 1 minor injury

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Authorities in South Bend say high winds blew a brick off of South Bend's tallest building tower, causing one minor injury.

South Bend Police says construction materials were being blown Tuesday afternoon from different levels of the 25-story Chase Tower. They said roads surrounding the building were being closed until winds subsided later Tuesday.

South Bend Police Lt. Eugene Eyster says falling debris grazed one male but he declined medical treatment.

The National Weather Service reported sustained winds near 30 mph and gusts over 40 mph in the city Tuesday afternoon.

The tower has been under renovation for more than a year.
