DuPage forest district offers spring, summer camps

Registration is open for a lineup of spring and summer day camps for kids and teens through the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County at dupageforest.org/camps.

Here's a quick look (costs are for DuPage residents, fees for non residents are higher):

Spring

Camp Danada: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, March 27-30, at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton. Enjoy hands-on horse time and help with stable chores at this four-day camp that includes games, crafts and supervised lead-line rides. Ages 10-14. Cost: $125.

Summer

Animal Adventures: 12:30 to 3 p.m. July 24-27 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. See animals up close and learn what they eat, how they survive and where they live. Ages 4-6. Cost: $120.

Bug Buddies: 12:30 to 4 p.m. July 10-13 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Learn about our multi-legged friends through crafts, stories, activities and songs. Ages 4-6. Cost: $120.

Choo-Choo and Nature, Too: 9 a.m. to noon June 19-22 at St. James Farm in Warrenville. Enjoy hikes, adventures and activities aboard a caboose while learning how we're all part of nature. Ages 4-6. Cost: $120.

Habitat Hunters: 9:30 a.m. to noon July 24-27 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Learn about plants and animals of woodlands, prairies and wetlands by exploring a new habitat each day. Ages 4-6. Cost: $120.

Little Campers: 12:30 to 3 p.m. June 26-29 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Discover the outdoors by pitching a tent, setting up camp, hunting for treasure and learning how to fish. Ages 4-6. Cost: $120.

Little Scientists: 9:30 a.m. to noon July 10-13 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Make slime, erupt a volcano, build a tower and have fun with experiments that will inspire scientific curiosity. Cost: $120.

Petite Artists: 9:30 a.m. to noon June 26-29 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Create nature art projects using colors, textures, patterns and sounds. Ages 4-6. Cost: $120.

Cold-Blooded Critter Camp: 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 7-10 at Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Become a junior herpetologist as you learn about the frogs, toads, snakes and turtles that live in our area. Ages 6-8. Cost: $120.

Wildlife Explorers: 9 a.m. to noon June 19-22 at Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Join an adventure filled with birds, snakes and bugs that includes lunch around the campfire. Ages 6-8. Cost: $120.

Animals That Fly: 12:30 to 3 p.m. July 24-27 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Compare techniques and types of animal flight as you learn about birds, bats and bugs through games and projects. Ages 7-9. Cost: $120.

Camp FBW Rocks!: 9:30 a.m. to noon July 24-27 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Learn how rocks, minerals and fossils are formed; create glacial landscapes; and find pieces to add to your collection. Ages: 7-9. Cost: $120.

Camping Adventures: 9:30 a.m. to noon July 10-13 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Ages 7-9. Cost: $120.

Earth, Wind, Fire, Water: 12:30 to 3 p.m. July 10-13 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Use hands-on experiments and observations to learn how these four forces of nature shaped the Earth. Ages 7-9. Cost: $120.

Eco Explorers: 9:30 a.m. to noon June 26-29 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Investigate the outdoors like a naturalist using real tools to learn about aquatic animals, prairie flowers, woodland birds and ways to help wildlife. Ages 7-9. Cost: $120.

Reptiles and Amphibians: 12:30 to 3 p.m. June 26-29 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Look for turtles, frogs, salamanders and snakes in the wild; learn how they live; and interact with reptiles and amphibians. Ages 7-9. Cost: $120.

Farmhands: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting June 12, 19 or 26 or July 10, 17, 24 or 31 at Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago. Experience how kids lived more than a century ago through 1890s games and barnyard and farmhouse chores. Ages: 7-12. Cost: $150.

Archery Camp: 12:30 to 3 p.m. July 24-27 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Get closer to the bull's-eye by learning safety techniques, practicing proper shooting and participating in friendly competitions and games. Ages 8-11. Cost: $120.

Creativity Camp: 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. July 10-14 at Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook. Explore your creativity through writing (mornings), drawing and painting (afternoons), or both. Ages 9-12. Cost: $150.

Junior Keeper Camp: 9 a.m. to noon July 17-20 at Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Learn what it takes to be a wildlife keeper as you go behind the scenes to help prepare food, clean and care for different animals. Ages 9-12. Cost: $120.

Ranger Adventure Camp: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting June 19 or 26 or July 10, 17, 24 or 31 at Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook or Herrick Lake Forest Preserve in Wheaton. Try archery, boating, fishing and hiking while improving your team-building and wilderness-survival skills. Ages 9-12. Cost: $250.

Outdoor Adventures: 9:30 a.m. to noon June 26-29 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Climb to the treetops with skilled foresters, learn how to shoot a bow and arrow, find out about the fish of Salt Creek and try geocaching with GPS. Ages 10-12. Cost: 120.

Trailblazing Adventures: 9:30 a.m. to noon July 10-13 at Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook. Learn how to use a map, compass and GPS unit, and go on geocaching and letterboxing treasure hunts. Ages 10-12. Cost: $120.

Horse Sense: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting June 5 or 19, July 10 or 24, or Aug. 7 at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton. Enjoy hands-on experiences with horses and the daily activities of a working barn, as well as lead-line rides, stable chores, games, crafts and Friday Family Day. Ages 10-14. Cost: $250.

Kayaking Camp: 9 a.m. to noon July 31 to Aug. 3 at Blackwell in Warrenville, Fullersburg Woods in Oak Brook, Herrick Lake in Wheaton and Hidden Lake in Downers Grove. Meet at a different forest preserve each day and learn about safety, gear, paddling strokes, navigation and how to handle a boat. Ages 10-15. Cost: $120.

Riding Sense: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting June 12 or 26, July 17 or 31, or Aug. 14 at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton. Enjoy all the fun of Horse Sense with the wonders and challenges of daily riding instruction. Ages 12-14. Cost: $400.
