Give little ones a big boost in 2017 with Schaumburg Park District Preschool

Let the Schaumburg Park District lead your child on the path to lifelong learning.

New this September, the District is offering full-day 4-year-old preschool from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 9-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at the recently renovated Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Schaumburg Road.

"With District 54 going to all day kindergarten, we decided this would be a good way to prepare 4-year-olds for elementary school," said Teresa Varco, early childhood supervisor. "Full days will allow for more learning and socialization."

Preschool programs will introduce more STEM concepts-science, technology, engineering and mathematics in 2017, Varco said.

New student registration packets for 2016-2017 District preschool classes will be available Feb. 13 at Bock Neighborhood Center, Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road; Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way; and Pat Shephard Center, 421 N. Springinsguth Road. The 2016-2017 school year will run September 2017 to May 2018.

Children must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2017 to begin preschool. For 4-year-old preschool, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2017.

Schaumburg Park District Preschool is accredited by the National Academy for the Education of Young Children. A variety of classes are offered, with curriculum designed to enhance social and language skills, develop kindergarten readiness and boost self-confidence while introducing early math, writing and scientific problem-solving concepts.

Families are invited to attend a free mini-preschool class and learn more about Schaumburg Park District preschool programs Feb. 8 during A Taste of Preschool. Registration is required.
