Kane County Recycles returns Jan. 14

The next Kane County Recycles event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 14, behind the Kane County Circuit Clerk's office at 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles. There will not be any recycling events in February or March. The second recycling event of the year will be April 1.

You can recycle books of any age and condition, and electronics, such as computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, stereos, cellphones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more.

There is a fee for televisions (any size or age) and computer monitors - both tube and flat screen - across the board for all drop-off locations and the event. The fee is $25 for screens under 21 inches (measured diagonally) and $35 for screens 21 inches and over.

The fee may be paid online in advance or on-site by exact cash or credit card. It is recommended that you pay online in advance at recycle.eworksesi.org if possible and bring your receipt to any drop-off or the collection event. You must bring the receipt with you.

The fee that you pay for screened equipment goes directly to the county's contracted electronics recycler, eWorks, a nonprofit whose main mission is to employ developmentally disabled individuals.

All other acceptable electronic items can be dropped off for free. A full list of acceptable items can be found at www.countyofkane.org/Recycling/.

Kane County Recycles does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators.

Remember you can use any of the electronics recycling drop-offs that are open eight hours a day Monday through Friday.

For questions, contact Jennifer Jarland, Kane County recycling coordinator, at (630) 208-3841 or recycle@countyofkane.org.
