Schaumburg Park District to offer full-day preschool

The Schaumburg Park District will begin offering full-day preschool, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., for 4-year-olds on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays beginning in September, the district announced.

On Wednesday, preschool will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All classes will take place at the recently renovated Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Schaumburg Road.

"With (Schaumburg Township Elementary School) District 54 going to all day kindergarten, we decided this would be a good way to prepare 4-year-olds for elementary school," Teresa Varco, early childhood supervisor, said in the park district's announcement. "Full days will allow for more learning and socialization."

Preschool programs will introduce more STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) concepts in 2017, Varco said.

New student registration packets will be available Feb. 13, at Bock Neighborhood Center, Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road; Meineke

Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way; and Pat Shephard Center, 421 N. Springinsguth Road.

For 4-year-old preschool, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2017.
