McHugh, Patterson, Stein and Swanson for Wauconda District 118

Five candidates are vying for four seats on the Wauconda District 118 school board. Four incumbents - Carey McHugh, Sam Stein, David Patterson, and Brian Swanson - are running for re-election along with newcomer Vincent Torossy.

McHugh, who has been on the board since 2007, wants to continue progress the district has made to help prepare students for the future. Patterson, who is seeking a second term on the board, would like to see the district add all-day kindergarten and upgrade its early child care program. Stein, who was appointed to the board in January, would like to see the district continue to expand its technology-based educational offerings. Swanson, who has been on the board for 14 years, wants to make sure the district preserves educational opportunities for students if budget cuts are required. Torrosy, who graduated from Wauconda High School in 2011, is running on a platform of preparing students for college, careers and civic engagement.

District 118 is running smoothly right now, and we see no reason incumbents McHugh, Patterson, and Swanson shouldn't be re-elected. Stein deserves the opportunity to continue to serve in the seat he was appointed to fill. Torossy brings a great deal of potential as a school leader, and we hope he continues to stay active in the community.
