Residents At The Merion Happy With Easy Access To All Levels Of Care

Robin Tucker didn't much like being away from home. The 85-year old spent a year away from what she considers to be her home at The Merion in Evanston, living temporarily at a retirement community in Lincolnwood. "For me, The Merion is just about perfect. I'm so happy here," she said after having moved back to the luxury senior living rental community in the heart of Evanston.

Tucker explained she'd lived contentedly at The Merion for seven years, even during the building's massive renovation, which she found to be only mildly disruptive. However when she became ill, her children encouraged her to move to a retirement community that offered rehabilitation and skilled nursing. "That wasn't available at the time at The Merion," she said.

Tucker, who is a retired English teacher from Evanston High School, has lived in Evanston for more than 60 years. "I'm a part of the community," she said. So even after her move to Lincolnwood, Tucker's heart remained in Evanston, and she returned to visit The Merion weekly. "I came every Thursday for a writing class and would stay for dinner. I missed what was going on and missed being with my friends," she said.

It was during one of her Thursday visits that Tucker learned about The Merion's new partnership with near-by Symphony of Evanston. Through the collaboration, residents at The Merion are assured priority access to Symphony's top quality post-acute or rehabilitation care including physical, occupational and speech therapy, post surgical wound care and more.

Additionally, The Merion's onsite Wellness Center which is open 24/7, provides nurses' visits, medicine management, AM/PM care, and more.

Between the partnership with Symphony of Evanston and the presence of the Wellness Center, residents at The Merion now have easy access to all levels of care.

"When I heard about Symphony, I knew immediately that I definitely wanted to move back," Tucker said. In November, she happily packed up her bags and moved into a lovely one-bedroom apartment at The Merion, saying that it is "beautifully furnished and perfect" for her.

"The partnership with Symphony and The Merion's Wellness Center make all of the difference in the world. This gives me the security of knowing that if I need help here, I can get it easily. And I'm receiving physical therapy right here. I don't even need to leave the building," Tucker said.

"I feel very happy to be here and I feel very alive," she said. And she's not alone. "The location, the staff, the programs...they're all wonderful and the residents are all happy. Everyone I talk to is grateful to be here."
