Pets focus of reading program in Lake Villa

A Winter's Tail, Lake Villa District Library's 2017 winter reading program, couples reading with pets to benefit Save-A-Pet, a local animal rescue organization. Based on the time a participant spends reading or being read to, the Friends of Lake Villa District Library will donate up to $5 to Save-A-Pet at 25 cents for every 15 minutes. Reading logs are available at the youth and adult reference desks. Kids will enjoy the pet-themed classics by Sharon Creech, "Love That Dog" and "Hate That Cat," which tell the story of Jack, his teacher, the animals in his life and the power of poetry. The program runs through Jan. 31. The library is at 1001 E. Grand Ave., Lake Villa, Visit www.lvdl.org.
