The condition of your bathroom can have an effect on your safety and even your health, said Tom Rice, director of sales for Tiger Bath Solutions, Tiger Roof and My Window Works, sister companies located in Bolingbrook.
"The mold and mildew that can be found in an old, poorly-maintained bathroom can cause a variety of disorders. In addition, old bathrooms that do not contain basic safety measures like nonslip tubs and grab bars can make a debilitating fall much more likely," Rice said.
About 70 percent of people older than 60 who take such a fall never return to their home, and many of those falls result in fatalities, he said.
"The shame of it is that these falls are all preventable. At Tiger Bath, we work to keep people, particularly baby boomers, safe inside their own homes," Rice said.
"We want to help people to help themselves by converting old bathtubs to walk-in showers or even walk-in tubs. Sometimes we even convert showers to bathtubs. It depends on what the customer wants," he added.
Tiger Bath Solutions was established in 2013 as a sister company to My Window Works, a thriving company since 1996. While the two companies, as well as a third roofing company, are all owned by the same family, Rice said they made a strategic decision to operate under different names to prevent confusion among customers.
"The name Tiger was chosen because we are a fierce company that fights against problems like unsafe conditions, mold and mildew on behalf of our customers and we felt that the name 'tiger' reflected that fierceness," Rice said.
Tiger Bath Solutions does not sell bath liners, which cover an existing tub. They remove the old tub, prep the floor and then replace it with a new, custom-made tub or shower of the customer's choosing.
Rice also said the company now offers a type of silver shield for walls that is a natural antimicrobial that prevents the future growth of mold.
Walk-in tubs that feature doors that swing open for ease of entry and exit are particularly popular with those who feel that they are no longer stable enough to climb in and out of a tub safely.
"Since all of our tubs are custom-made, we are able to meet each homeowner's individual needs like built-in tub and shower seats that can hold up to 1,500 pounds," he said.
All of their tubs and showers are made at their factory in Roselle, not overseas. And they come with a lifetime warranty, Rice said.
"Our passion is to help people remain safe in their home bathrooms so that they can continue to live independently. We also want to help them keep their dignity in the bathroom since we know that a fall can force them to have assistance for either the short-term or the long-term," Rice said.
Most recently, Tiger Bath Solutions has begun doing full baths, as well as "wet area" replacements. They now offer services for full bathroom teardowns, replacing sinks, vanities, toilets, floors and walls in addition to the tub/shower area.
Tiger Bath Solutions representatives are able to call on potential customers, discuss their needs and wishes and then quickly present them with an entire build-out plan on an iPad so they know exactly what to expect.
"These appointments with customers are much more emotional than you would expect. Some people are living in really bad conditions in their bathrooms and we work to fulfill their dreams for a better situation. I tell my salespeople to take care of every customer as if they were their own mother or father," Rice said.
"We design something that works for each person's budget and work with six different finance companies," he continued.
Rice said installation usually occurs within four to eight weeks after measurements are taken and most "wet area" installations are completed in one day.
Tiger Bath Solutions has received an A rating from BestPickReports.com, a A+ rating on Angie's List and is listed in the EBSCO Research Book, Rice said.
