Alma Dance School to put on 'Nutcracker' this weekend

Alma Dance School, a Cuban-method ballet school in Wheaton, will be performing a holiday tradition, "The Nutcracker" ballet.

The performances will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, in the Blizzard Theatre at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive. Tickets are $28 or $20 for children.

The performances will feature students of the Cuban-method ballet school, along with professional Cuban dancers from across the U.S. Last year, their performances were met with rave reviews and hope to build on that success.

New costumes and sets are planned and the students are hard at work to provide a wonderful experience for everyone.

Alma Dance School directors Guillermo Leyva and Vilma Machin are former professional ballet dancers with international experience. As award-winning ballet teachers, both have led students to place at the prestigious Youth America Grand Prix competitions, nationally and regionally.
