Tinder Brings Its Swipes To Apple TV

Apple TV owners who are also Tinder members have the opportunity to turn their dating app sessions into a spectator sport this holiday season, thanks to Tinder's new Apple TV app.

It's available starting Tuesday for Tinder users worldwide, and clearly aimed at group sessions: get your Aunt Donna's advice before you swipe right or left from the comfort of the couch after a big holiday meal, Tinder suggests in a blog post.

Tinder takes advantage of the new Apple TV 's touch-enabled remote, which allows you to approximate the same swiping motions you'd perform on your Tinder smartphone app. You can also click the trackpad to view more details about a profile, or swipe up on the remote for a "Super Like," which shows the person that you like him or her before he or she swipes left or right on your profile.

Subscribers of the paid Tinder Plus plan can shake the Apple TV remote to rewind their swipe, which is exactly what it sounds like: you can revoke your swipe if you're having second thoughts or want to see the person's profile again. The Apple TV app also supports other advanced features like Tinder Boost or Passport.

One thing missing from the Apple TV app is messaging and the ability to edit your profile, which would be cumbersome to do with a remote control. There's also no indication of whether Tinder plans to add its new non-dating features to the living room. In September, the company introduced Tinder Stacks, which brings its yay-or-nay voting system to iMessage, allowing users to swipe left or right on groups of photos.
