Chicago man sentenced to 6 yrs for seeking sex with girl

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois judge has imposed a six-year prison sentence on a 34-year-old Chicago man for seeking to pay for sex with a child.

Kane County prosecutors say Marek P. Gacierz traveled to an Aurora hotel intending to have sex with what he thought would be a 15-year-old girl. Authorities arrested him after he paid $150 to someone who he believed was the girl's mother.

State's Attorney Joe McMahon called what the man did "an appalling and depraved act."

A judge sentenced him Friday. He was convicted in June of involuntary sexual servitude of a minor and traveling to meet a minor.

Gacierz will get several months off for time already serve. Under Illinois law, he also must register for 10 years as a sex offender.
