Aurora Rotary Club honors 10 Fox Valley youth

Fox Valley students were recognized for academic excellence and community service at the 47th annual Pearl Harbor Day memorial luncheon at Gaslight Manor in Aurora Dec. 5.

Named 30th annual Ted Brattin Civic Youth Award recipients were: Yasmin Broy from Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy; Vanessa Cai and Archit Dhar from Neuqua Valley High School; Benjamin Garcia from Marmion Academy; Brooke Jensen from Yorkville High School; Noelle Kilpatrick, Oswego High School; Natalie McKee from Rosary High School; Nabila Qadri from Naperville North High School; Guadalupe Romualdo from Waubonsee Community College; and Austin Runde from Aurora Central Catholic High School.

The 30th awards recognize outstanding leadership, civic involvement and selfless community service by Fox Valley youth.

Schools and churches are invited to nominate candidates. Aurora Rotary Club officials select 10 award winners.

The $100 awards are funded by the Aurora Rotary Club. The club and Aurora Navy League Council co-sponsored the luncheon.

Aurora Navy League sponsors luncheon attendance for award winners. Aurora Rotary Club hosts award winners' parents or two other guests and the award winner's nominator.

Brattin, a World War II Marine veteran and Aurora businessman, helped found the Aurora Navy League Council and Aurora-Naperville Rotary Club.

Pearl Harbor survivors honored at the luncheon were Everitt Schlegel of Elgin and Joe Triolo of Zion.
