Illinois Music Educators Select Fremd Kids for All-State

Palatine, IL: The Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) annually selects the most talented musicians across the state to attend the three-day ILMEA conference as All-State participants. The students rehearse with their ensembles and perform in concert at the end of the conference. Thousands of musicians across the state vie for this prestigious honor. The weekend also includes a Future Music Educators Seminar, where selected students can learn about careers in music education.

This year nine Fremd students were selected for the ensembles, and one for the seminar.

"As a music department staff, we are very proud of our musicians in all levels of our ensembles who continue to challenge themselves while making music," said Marla Caballero, director of Orchestras at Fremd High School. "For the All-State musicians, they are playing and singing at an extremely high level and will have the opportunity to make music with other musicians from around the state who share the same passion for music. It is always inspiring to create something extraordinary with other musicians and we are very excited that these students will be able to experience that in January! As music educators, it's also wonderful to see them bringing back what they learned at All-State and sharing that with the members of their ensembles - everyone is better because of it!"

The selected students and their ensembles are:

Band: Bethany Sorman (12)

Chorus: Lauren Berryhill (12), Kay Petrie (12), Ria Ravi (11), Collin Schroeder (12)

Orchestra: Lauren Cardoza (12), Andres Carrero (12), Daniel Choi (12), Hannah Lin (10)

Future Music Educators Seminar: Allison Gile (12)

Concerts: Information about public performances by the groups can be found on the ILMEA website - http://www.ilmea.org/events/2017imec
