Indiana fighter win not on list to get Air Force F-35 jets

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Air Force has chosen not to send next-generation F-35 fighter jets to the 122nd Fighter Wing and the Indiana National Guard.

The (Fort Wayne) Journal-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/2hklY1Y ) that the 122nd Fighter Wing was among 18 Air National Guard bases under consideration to fly the next generation jet. The Air Force narrowed the field of 18 down to five on Wednesday. Indiana was not on the list.

Major Gen. Courtney Carr is adjutant general of the Indiana National Guard. He says the decision "is not a negative reflection" on the 122nd Fighter Wing. The wing operates A-10 attack jets. Those will be replaced with F-16 fighter jets in coming years.

Carr says he is certain that Indiana "will have a fighter at the base for years to come."
