Get Fit With A Little Help from the Hoffman Estates Park District

For those who are looking to improve their overall health this winter, the Hoffman Estates Park District (HE Parks) offers a variety of options for every lifestyle, fitness level and budget.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) suggests that each week adults get an equivalent of 150 minutes each week of aerobic activity at a moderate level and participate in muscle strengthening activities least two days a week, making sure each major muscle group is covered. (cdc.gov)

HE Parks offers many ways to help individuals reach these fitness goals, including individual group fitness classes to walking paths in the parks:

Parks - HE Park offers more than 70 parks with 828 acres of open space with 12 miles of walking paths and 45 playgrounds.

Group Fitness Classes - Each season, there are numerous group fitness classes available at varying dates and times throughout the week. Options range from boot camps to yoga.

Fitness Memberships - Prairie Stone Sports and Wellness Center is a full-service fitness center that includes an aquatic center, all group fitness, machines, indoor walking/running track and child care services. Triphahn and Willow Fitness Centers offer an affordable, "no-frills" fitness center located near residential and work locations.

Personal Training - One-on-one sessions with a certified personal trainer offers benefits to individuals who want customized plans specifically suited for their needs.

Nutrition Counseling - Sessions with a nutrition counselor can assist with meal planning as a way to support fitness goals.

Sports programs - Sports leagues and lessons are available for kids and adults.

Drop in Sports - Adults can drop in at specific dates and times to play volley ball, basketball, adult hockey and pickle ball.

For information about these options, call 847-885-7500 or go online at heparks.org. Residents can also stop by one of the park district's facilities to pick up a seasonal Program Guide. The Friends of HE Parks foundation offers scholarships to those facing financial hardships.
