LSU, defensive coordinator Aranda formalize new contract

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda have wrapped up details of a new contract worth nearly $6 million over the next three seasons.

Pending final approval by LSU's board of supervisors, the deal maintains Aranda's title of associate head coach, which he'd held on an interim basis since Ed Orgeron took over for Les Miles as head coach in late September.

The contract runs through March 31, 2020, with a salary of $1.8 million next season, $1.85 million in 2018 and $1.9 million in 2019. It also includes bonuses.

Aranda's buyout will be about 40 percent of his remaining salary if he accepts a non-head coaching position within 500 miles of Baton Rouge and 15 percent if beyond 500 miles.

LSU ranked sixth nationally in scoring defense this season.
