Huntley's 3-pointers do in Dundee-Crown

Huntley's 3-point barrage held Dundee-Crown at bay.

The host Red Raiders knocked down nine trifectas and delivered a solid defensive effort to post a convincing 48-32 victory over the Chargers Wednesday night in Fox Valley Conference boys basketball action.

Junior guard Cory Knipp buried three 3-pointers to lead Huntley (3-4, 2-1) with 13 points while Andrew Fulcer (10 points), Matt Seng and Stephen Browne each hit a pair of shots from beyond the arc.

"We were all hitting it and it got our momentum going. Once you hit a couple, they keep falling," Knipp said.

Trailing by 11 at the half, Dundee-Crown (2-5, 1-2) narrowed the gap to 27-19 on a 3-point play from Jack Orndahl and transition hoop from Tariq Burns.

However, the Red Raiders responded with four consecutive 3-pointers over the next 2:30 to essentially put the game out of reach at 39-19.

"I felt like we were a little bit flat to start the third quarter, so we went to a couple of subs early and they hit some key threes in transition," said Huntley coach Will Benson. "We were fortunate the shots went in tonight."

It was quite the opposite for the Chargers, who went 1-for-11 from 3-point range and made just 7-of-20 free throw attempts.

"Huntley played great. They were the aggressor and took it to us tonight," said Chargers coach Lance Huber. "We didn't make many shots, but they had a lot to do with it."

"Overall that was two solid games in a row for us defensively," Benson said.

Orndahl tallied 11 of his team-high 13 points in the second half for Dundee-Crown while junior Gabe Bergeron provided a spark off the bench with 11 points and 9 rebounds.

"We had to stop Orndahl. He's a great player," Knipp said. "It had to be five guys working as one and we had to be smart, attentive and focused the entire time."

Huntley grabbed a 10-1 lead in the opening three minutes behind a pair of 3-pointers from Seng and never trailed.
