Girls gymnastics: Meyrick leads Conant's victory

A tour de force performance from Conant senior Melynda Meyrick helped the Cougars win their girls gymnastics meet Wednesday at Hoffman Estates.

Meyrick won each event on her way to the top all-around total with a terrific early season score of 37.60.

She was tops on vault (9.4), bars (9.2), balance beam (9.4) and floor exercise (9.6).

Conant's score was 142.85, with Hoffman Estates at 125.70.

Other top-three finishers for the Cougars included senior Mariana Vazquez-Rosas (second on vault), sophomore Sydney Tong (second on bars, third on floor), freshman Julia Betts (third on vault and beam) and junior Bailey Bloom (third on bars, second on beam and floor).

Tong was second in the all-around (35.45) and Betts was third (34.30). The top all-arounder for Hoffman Estates was freshman Charlee Campos (31.70).

Buffalo Grove d. Elk Grove: Senior Teresa Riles and freshman Dagmara Sobolak each won two events to lift the Bison past the host Grens 126.8-115.15.

Riles took top honors on vault (8.35) and floor exercise (8.75), and Sobolak won uneven bars (9.00) and balance beam (7.025).

Elk Grove's top finish came from sophomore Anna Sprenger, who placed third on floor (8.40).

Sobolak had the top all-around finish (32.825), just ahead of Riles (31.85).
