DeVos not qualified as secretary of education

I worked in a public school for 34 years. In my opinion, Betsy DeVos is not qualified to be secretary of education. She does not have an education degree. She has no teaching experience and has never worked in a school environment.

She supports for-profit education, i.e., charter schools. Many of these are run as businesses and are not concerned with education. Private and charter schools are not obligated to serve all students including those who are needy or those with learning disabilities.

She and the president-elect did not send their children to public schools and are clearly out of touch with the needs of the families of students who attend them.

She advocates funneling public funds to private and charter schools. Vouchers take money away from public schools which means students in public schools would get less.

She made a huge donation to the president-elect's campaign. Is this what "qualified" her for the position?

The secretary of education is supposed to make sure that the public education system works for all students in all communities. DeVos wants to privatize schools.

Please write your senators to oppose this appointment.
