Antioch Vikings Cheer 8th Grade Squad Wins IRCA State Championship

The Antioch Viking Youth Cheerleading Program sent five of their cheer squads to the IRCA (Illinois Recreational Cheerleading Association) State Cheer Competition on December 2nd-4th at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL. Each grade level competed in a preliminary round and had to finish in the top three to make it to the Championship round on Sunday, December 4th. The Antioch Vikings had two cheer squads make it to the championship round. Their JR Pee Wee Squad (3rd graders) and their Varsity Squad (8th graders). The Jr Pee Wee Squad ending up taking 3rd place in the championship round and the Varsity Squad took home the State Title with the highest score of the day. This was a great win for the Antioch Viking Varsity Squad after they missed winning the title in 2015 by 1/10 of a point. The Antioch Viking Varsity Squad is made of twenty-eight 8th graders from the Antioch Area and their Head Coach is Beth Piper. This squad has been together since kindergarten and has competed in the State Competition 5 times but this is their first State Title.
