Wheaton Church to Host a Free Holiday Concert by The Elizabethans
Wheaton's Gary United Methodist Church invites the public to a performance by The Elizabethans. The local musical group, originally founded in 1970 as "The Madrigal Singers," will perform its annual holiday concert at the church on Monday, December 12 at 7:30 pm. Sponsored by the church's United Methodist Women, the performance will feature a delightful mix of Christmas madrigals and other songs of the season. Madrigals were popular during Elizabethan times, and the term refers to a pastoral song written for small groups that features two or more separate melodies to a simple text. Brought to England from Italy in the 16th century, the madrigal flourished during England's Renaissance, becoming a favorite form of entertainment. Admission for this event is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring mittens or a hat to be donated to People's Resource Center. PRC is a local charity that assists over 30,000 low-income DuPage County residents, providing them with basic needs and programs to break the cycle of poverty.
