Library Book Discussions Open to New Members

Book Discussion Groups covering a variety of genres are always open to new members at the Schaumburg Township District Library and its branches. There is no fee for attending, however, registration is required. Registration takes place at the various desks where the books are acquired. The following book discussion groups will meet in January at the Central Library in Schaumburg, the branch libraries in Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park, or an off-site location.

The Young(ish) Adult Book Club will discuss "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness from 1-2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, at Wally's Coffee House, 55 W. Schaumburg Road. A limited number of loaner copies are available at the Fiction Desk on the first floor of the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.

Who Filmed This Book participants will talk about "The 100 Foot Journey" by Richard C. Morais from 6:30-9 p.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 11 and 25 at the Hanover Park Branch Library, 1266 Irving Park Road. A limited number of loaner copies are available at the Hanover Park Branch Check-out Desk.

The Beyond the Book discussion group will share thoughts and opinions on four titles in January. Members are welcome to attend any number of the meetings and can acquire loaner copies at the Fiction Desk. "Boy, Snow, Bird" by Helen Oyeyemi will be discussed from 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17 in the Rasmussen South Room of the Central Library in Schaumburg. "Isaac's Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History" by Erik Larson will be the featured title from 7:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, also in the Rasmussen South Room. "The Interestings" by Meg Wolitzer will be the topic from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 20 at the Hoffman Estates Branch Library, 1550 Hassell Road. The final book for January will be "Oryx and Crake" by Margaret Atwood. Members will discuss this title from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan 24 in the Rasmussen South Room of the Central Library.

For those who enjoy nonfiction, the Second Floor Reads group will discuss "Hidden Figures: the American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians who Helped Win the Space Race" by Margot Lee Shetterly. A limited number of loaner copies are available at the Reference Desk on the second floor of the Central Library.
