The Latest: East St. Louis officials face misconduct charges

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - The Latest on arrests of public officials and others in and around East St. Louis (all times local):

3:10 p.m.

Two East St. Louis Township trustees and an East St. Louis city councilwoman are among those arrested Monday in a state and federal corruption investigation in the troubled southwestern Illinois community.

The arrests come just days after the East St. Louis Township supervisor pleaded guilty to spending public money on personal trips and gifts.

The (Belleville) News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/2haUJXn) East St. Louis Councilwoman June Hamilton Dean, Township Trustee Edith R. Moore and Township Trustee Michael "Rump" Roberts are among those arrested on various misconduct charges.

It was not immediately clear if they are represented by attorneys who could speak on their behalf about the allegations.

Last week, East St. Louis Township Supervisor Oliver Hamilton pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud charges. His arrest followed an investigation by the News-Democrat into his spending practices.

Three more individuals have been arrested in a state and federal corruption investigation in the southwestern Illinois community of East St. Louis.

The (Belleville) News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/2haUJXn) Raeshaunta S. Lacey was arrested Monday on a charge of receiving an altered document allegedly from East St. Louis city councilwoman June Hamilton Dean, who was arrested earlier in the day.

Authorities also arrested East St. Louis Township Trustee Michael "Rump" Roberts. He's charged with using a public credit card for a trip to Las Vegas for him and his wife.

East St. Louis Community Development Office chief Edith R. Moore was arrested and charged with forgery for allegedly preventing "another person from lawfully voting."

Earlier Monday, authorities arrested a Washington Park auxiliary police officer for providing false information during a crash investigation.

It was not immediately clear if any of the arrestees were represented by attorneys who could speak on their behalf about the allegations.

Authorities arrested a city councilwoman in East St. Louis and a police officer in Washington Park in a state and federal corruption investigation that's expected to produce more arrests.

The (Belleville) News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/2haUJXn) councilwoman June Hamilton Dean and auxiliary police officer Anthony Davis were charged Monday.

Charges against additional public officials may be announced Monday afternoon. St. Clair County prosecutors filed criminal complaints accusing the councilwoman of creating a false letter of employment "with the intent to defraud." The police officer is accused of providing false information to an Illinois State Trooper investigating a crash.

The southwestern Illinois community of East St. Louis has been troubled by budget shortfalls and turnover of public officials amid other corruption scandals. It has about 27,000 residents and sits across the Mississippi River from St. Louis.
