North: Wishing Terry Boers the best in retirement

Terry Boers announced his retirement the other day as afternoon radio host at The Score 670-AM. I consider him one of the wittiest and funniest guys ever to work in Chicago radio. He was an original part of a group of people working at a small daytime station who eventually made history.

WSCR 670-AM will be celebrating 25 years on the air in January even after many thought it wouldn't last six months. Boers was a huge part of that success and his show with Dan McNeil was as good as it gets.

Be-Be and I wish Terry, his wife Carol and their family the very best.

Random thoughts and tidbits:

• People who want John Fox out as coach of the Chicago Bears haven't been watching the players he's been given very closely. Fox deserves another year.

• I said in the beginning of the season that Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott would be rookie of the year, but here comes the Cowboys' quarterback, Dak Prescott.

• Is Jay Cutler packing yet?

• Baseball has labor peace for five more years. Thank you!

• Notre Dame college football is irrelevant. Seriously, it's sleepy and snory.

• Penn State has two losses. OSU has one. I know head-to-head is important, but two losses is the issue.

• Tiger Woods is back, but for how long? We will see, but the thrill is gone.

• I watched two really good movies: "Race," about the great Jesse Owens, and then "Hands of Stone." The latter is the story of two legends in the boxing world, Roberto Duran (Edgar Ramirez) and his trainer, Ray Arcel (Robert De Niro). Give a look to both well-done movies, definitely worth seeing.

• I am just not feeling the college basketball season yet; get back to me in January.

• As good as the New England Patriots (9-2) and the Dallas Cowboys (10-1) are, we still have no clue who will be standing at the Super Bowl come February. It's wide open.

• I have been watching the Cleveland Cavaliers (13-3) and I don't see anybody beating them in a seven-game series. I liked the Golden State Warriors better without the addition of Kevin Durant.

• The Philadelphia 76ers postponed their game Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings because of condensation on the floor. That's so 1980s, but it happens. The Sixers (4-14) still stink, but their coach Brett Brown remains. The players continue to make the same mental mistakes - that's on the coaching staff!
