Rosenfeldt leads St. Charles East past West Aurora

St. Charles East always asks a lot of junior Sara Rosenfeldt. Friday night at West Aurora, the Saints asked for a little more.

With Ashley DiOrio out with a back injury, Rosenfeldt played all 32 minutes and led both teams with 23 points in a 53-43 St. Charles East victory.

"Usually we can give her a little breather but tonight we really had to keep her on the floor," Saints coach Lori Drumtra said. "She did a nice job."

Rosenfeldt shook off an early charge call to score 13 of her points in the first half, helping the Saints take a 26-17 halftime lead. She then drove for the first basket of the third quarter.

The Saints never could completely pull away. Trailing 35-24, West Aurora sophomore Dajour Miles nailed a 3-pointer and Skylar Doby sank a pair of free throws before closing the third quarter with a jumper, bringing the Blackhawks within 37-31.

West Aurora (3-4) quickly fell behind by double digits again. Rosenfeldt hit a 3 and scored on a putback to start the final quarter, turning the 6-point game into an 11-point lead.

A 3-pointer by Nicole Jordan kept St. Charles East up 46-36. West Aurora got as close as 48-43 on sophomore Keva Tomas' 3-pointer with 1:12 left before Marissa Urso's 3 free throws sealed the win.

"Rose Stackhouse started in place (of DiOrio), Taylor Shead got some good minutes," Drumtra said. "It was nice to have some other kids to step up."

The Saints (5-2) also got 13 points from Urso in winning the Upstate Eight crossover.

"I thought we played really poor. Our defense was really weak tonight," said West Aurora coach Connie Siljendahl, whose team hopes to get Kiyanna Rodgers (ACL) back next Friday. "You can't win games if you can't put the ball in the basket. We were undisciplined at times. We are very fast and sometimes when things are fast they get out of control. Once we settle down we will be fine. It's a great group of kids."
